Ayla Finds Jondalar

Ayla is on her own -again- in the beginning of this first sequel to 'The Clan of the Cave
Bear'. The heroine is on a voyage of discovery to find people of her own kind because she
had to leave her adoptive family and friends of the Clan. To find out why, you've got to
read the books!

"The Valley of Horses" is Jean M. Auel's second best-selling book in the Earth's Children
series. Our heroine travels northeast from the Clan's cave and finds a beautiful valley where
a herd of steppe horses runs wild and free. Since Ayla is alone, she must hunt for her own
food. And because of loneliness, she finds a unique friendship with the animals in her valley.
There are no people around - yet.

Ayla ingeniously discovers quite by accident the skills needed to survive alone. None of
her experiences though, can prepare her for what she feels when she rescues a young man
from almost certain death. He is the first of the "Others"-people like herself-that she has
ever seen. She cannot remember the people who were her birth family. Torn between her
wish for humans to talk to and her fear of the unknown 'Others', she tries to cope with her
deep attraction to Jondalar. It is he who teaches her about true friendship and love.
