Dean Koontz

Master of Menace

"I Fall To Pieces" From DK's "Phantoms" Movie

I've been reading and enjoying Dean Koontz's books since the summer of 1992 (I started with 'Hideaway'). And since February 1997, I've made so many wonderful friends over the Internet because of him. One in particular makes me feel truly blessed. She really helped me get my first site on GeoCities on its feet. Thanks Becca! On Feb. 18, 1998, in my homecity of San Francisco, Calif., I finally met and had my picture taken with the Master Himself; spooky ol' Dean Koontz! The picture is at the bottom of this page.

He really is the nicest man anyone could want to meet! He was supposed to begin signing books
for his fans at 12 noon that day in Stacey's Bookstore. When I arrived at 10 minutes before noon,
he had already begun and the line was pretty long; about 75-100 people! I saw a sign that said Dean would sign up to 6 books per customer. See? What a nice man! (6 books each!) By the time
I got near the front of the line and could see him taking a picture with someone, I also saw that
his wife Gerda was with him. She is really nice with a soft voice and she's so shy. At that point, I'd been in line almost an hour and looked behind me in line and saw another 75-100 people
waiting for him to sign their books as well! I'd never realized there were so many people in San Francisco who liked his books! That was a shock. I'd always felt like I was the only one here who read his work!

When Gerda noticed I was holding a little camera I'd pulled from my pocket, she asked me if I wanted to have my picture taken with Dean and of course I said yes! After he signed my copy
of Fear Nothing (He wrote "Dawn, Seize the Day!" and the date 2/18/98) and a couple of items for friends, we stood together and he put his arm across my shoulder and I smiled for the camera
while a lady who works in the book store took the photo. I said "Thank You" & "Good-Bye" and floated out of the store. What a great memory!

Oh! I almost forgot. I've read over 40 of Dean's books so far. Phantoms is my favorite. And I hope to
read many more. Dean Koontz is #1 in MY book! And if it wasn't for discovering DK, I would never
have met so many wonderful new friends on the internet! We still keep in contact by a mailing list. At the bottom of this page are links to pages with short summaries and bookcovers to 43 of Dean's best-known novels. Check 'em out!
